AGORA – taking research to the public

The Agora scheme aims to promote the spread of knowledge, as well as the exchange of views and perspectives about scientific research. It therefore encourages projects involving two-way processes – with interaction and listening – which generate dialogues between researchers and the public.

The call for proposals is issued on 15th May each year. Grants of between CHF 5,000 and CHF 200,000 are awarded for both small communication formats and large-scale initiatives with more far-reaching goals. Diverse activities are supported, for example: discussions and debates, hands-on workshops, multimedia projects, serious games, theatre and performances, interactive exhibitions, education projects with schools, etc.

Das Förderprogramm «MINT Schweiz» ist auf grosses Interesse gestossen.

Bis zum Stichtag (7. Juni 2014) sind 158 Gesuche eingegangen, die insgesamt etwas über 13 Millionen Franken beantragen. Der Bund stellt 1,5 Millionen zur Verfügung für dieses Programm, dessen Ziel die Unterstützung von Projekten durch eine einmalige Anschub- oder Zusatzfinanzierung ist. Jedes Projekt muss den Einsatz von eigenen finanziellen Mitteln vorlegen können.

New calls for all three types of Marie Curie Individual Fellowships have been published 14th march on the EU Commission Participant Portal:

• Intra-European      Fellowship (IEF)
• International      Outgoing Fellowship (IOF)
• International      Incoming Fellowship (IIF)

The deadline for the open calls is August 14^th, 2013.

Two main rules have to be fulfilled to be able to apply for funding:

Eligibility rule: Experienced researchers shall, at the time of the relevant deadline for submission of proposals (August 14^th, 2013) by the host organisation, be in possession of a doctoral degree or have at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience.

Mobility rule: at the time of the relevant deadline for submission of proposals or recruitment by the host organisation, depending on the action, researchers shall not have resided or carried out their main activity (work , studies, etc) in the country of their host organisation for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date.

Outreach und Kommunikation. Der Dialog von Forschenden über ihre wissenschaftliche Arbeit und deren Bedeutung für die Gesellschaft.

“Im laufenden Jahr finanziert das Programm Agora des Schweizerischen Nationalfonds 14 Kommunikationsprojekte mit 2,3 Millionen CHF. Darunter z.B. von der Uni Zürich die “Interactive Science Show – Neuropsychology in everyday life”. Von der ETH ist in diesem Jahr kein Projekt dabei – aber vielleicht 2014? ” Jun Sarbach, HK

Die «Scientifica» 2013 steht unter dem Thema «Risiko».

Wie gehen wir mit Risiken um? Wie kann man sie in verschiedenen Bereichen erkennen und abschätzen? Wie lassen sich Risiken minimieren oder vermeiden?

– Umwelt/Natur

– Technologie/Gesellschaft

Die Hochschulkommunikation wird aus Ihren Vorschlägen bis Mitte März 2013 das definitive «Scientifica»-Programm zusammenstellen. Für Projektvorschlag und Rückfragen: regina.moser@phys.ethz.ch
